Honor In Healing

Honor In Healing

We Honor God As We Pray And Trust HIM With Healing

My sister, Kelly, called and said, “It’s time. I’m going to add Jodie and Mary to the call. Mom and Mary are together in Dad’s room.” My Dad was transitioning to heaven. We were all together; my Dad, Mom, and my sister Mary together in Wisconsin, and me, my sisters Kelly and Jodie on the phone with them in Texas. We told our Dad how much we loved him, what a great Dad he was, that we would take care of our Mom, and he could go to heaven. We cheered him on into the arms of Jesus. My Dad waited until we were all together to go. We praised God for his kindness and mercy on our family. It was a holy moment I’ll never forget.

My Dad had Alzheimer’s for over 10 years. We prayed for him daily that God would take away that horrible disease. In the long years of waiting, nursing, difficulties and painful realities, we continued to honor the Lord and His ways. I don’t understand God’s decisions; however, I choose to trust how God decides to heal. Heaven is my Dad’s healing. His mind and body are whole and healthy. He is doing all the things he loved doing. I’m thankful that I have no regrets. No missed moments, memories, or words. Life is hard, but joy and hope are birthed in the hard places. I saw wondrous things as I chose to honor the Lord. I saw that God is a tender protector. Jesus is a kind Savior. The Holy Spirit is a counselor and comforter. I choose to live my life to glorify God. No matter if I agree with His decisions or not, I will honor Him.

Reflection

  1.  What do you do when you don’t agree with God’s decisions?

  2. How has God come through for you in healing? Was it a heavenly or earthly healing?

  3. I have learned that, when life gets hard, I need to be kind to myself. How can you be kind to yourself when life gets hard?

Goals

Describe our triune God in your own words: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

(Psalms 23 NLT)
