My Go to Strategy to Avoid the Holiday Weight Gain
Do you feel like you are having a constant party with food from Thanksgiving Day through the New Year? That can be six weeks of non stop eating with an abundance of cookies, cakes, pies, chips, dips, heavy sauces and creams. With so much to choose from, I believe one way to stay in control is to carefully evaluate all the many choices. My go to strategy to avoid the holiday weight gain is to eat only those foods that are important to me.
In coaching Christian busy women on how to find time for their fitness and time with God, I share how to prioritize life’s demands and focus on the things that are really important. I personally apply that same idea to the way I eat, especially for parties and holiday events? Think of it this way. Trying to do everything at one time can lead to additional stress, burn out and fatigue just as eating everything at one time can lead to holiday weight gain.
To be in control of your holiday eating this year, adapt a new perspective and incorporate a few simple steps at your next event.
1. Make a decision to focus on want is really important to you. Give your energy and time to friends and family and not allow the food to be the main attraction.
2. Choose only to eat holiday foods that are special or important to you in a healthy portion size.
3. Evaluate the buffet or menu before filling your plate to identify those special items and avoid wasting time and calories on the chips, dip or cookies that are available to you at any time of the year?
I love a good party with friends and special treats each year. But I have learned I must incorporate a plan of action and I want to enjoy those special moments and favorite foods.
So as with life, we can’t get caught up in doing so many things that we lose sight of what is really important. Put a little thought into it by prioritizing and choosing only those foods that are important to you. Make this your go to strategy and avoid the holiday weight gain.
