Find Your God-Sized Dream
Find Your God-Sized Dream
For The Man Who Finds This Wife
As both a child and a young adult, I did not know how to dream. I learned how to survive, get up each day, and put in the work of living, but dreaming seemed like a whim or a luxury. Survival was my habit, and I was a pro.
But God! One day, He spoke to me through my daily Bible reading. As I read Romans 12:1-2 in The Message version of the Bible, it became clear that I had become “well-adjusted.” The Words jumped off the page of my Bible, and I was never the same. Reading this made me realize that I had conformed to what I thought I was supposed to do instead of laying my life before God. I started to pray at that moment, “God, I know you put more into me than I am expecting of myself – help me view myself the way you view me.”
My dream journey began as God answered my prayer. The potential He placed in me became more and more apparent. I started to delve deeper into the meaning of what it is to dream. The word “dream” has multiple definitions. When used as a noun (a person, place, or thing), “dream” becomes our target, our goal, and where we are headed – a place. When we use the adjective form of “dream,” the word describes our most desirable outcome or ideal situation. By focusing on what dreaming means and what it means to me, I found my path.
My journey of learning to dream, giving myself the freedom to dream, and acting on those dreams lead to the successful publishing of my first book, “Overcoming Sexual Abuse, From the Inside Out,” with many more to come! In my book, I share the steps God brought me through to overcome past abuse in my life. Now, I get to encourage other people who have lived through similar circumstances.
When you go on a dream journey with God, one way to know that you are on the right track is that your dream will fit you exactly right. Ephesians 4:16 says, “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” When you spend time meditating on, seeking understanding, and putting brain space toward dreaming, remember God’s plans are on His timing, and His timing is perfect. What He wants to do through you, He will first do in you. God-sized dreaming always benefits people – you and those around you!
Reflection
1. Other than your alarm clock, what gets you up in the morning – what dreams has God put in you?
2. Since God-sized dreams are always about people, what have you learned or overcome in your life that would have value to others?
3. When you think of the word “dream,” what adjectives would you want to be attached to that? (For example, Life-changing, impactful, exciting)
Goals
Where are you at on your journey? Do you have actions assigned to your dream? Write one goal you can accomplish today that is relevant to your vision.
““So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.” (Romans 12:1-2 MSG)
