A Bruno Mars Kind of Treasure
A Bruno Mars Kind of Treasure
For The Man Who Finds This Wife
“You the first-round draft—
You the whole franchise and the top pick.” – Lecrae
Day-dreaming has always been a favorite pastime of mine. I probably spent more of my childhood in my head rather than engaging with reality. My imagination would run wild thinking about becoming a famous singer like Selena, figure-skating like Kristi Yamaguchi, solving mysteries like Nancy Drew, venturing through the forest like Pocahontas— and while these dreams shifted over time, the dream of finding love and living happily ever after like Cinderella, never did.
Romance, intimacy, and marriage have been the dream for most of my young adult life, but in my final days of feeling “forever young,” that dream started to shift. What was once a dream to find my one special man, became a dream of who my man would find in me.
The Bible never says that she who finds a husband will be blessed. I find it interesting that as women, finding a man tends to be our top priority. The Bible speaks continuously about the blessing that women are. As I read more and more of scripture, I read stories of women like Rebekah who drew water for strangers, and women like the Shunamite woman who opened her home to prophets and asked for miracles. I wanted to be a woman like that. As Jeanette Ikz wrote in her poem “I Will Wait” I wanted a man to find and prize biblical qualities within me:
“And you will know me,
and you will find me,
where the boldness of Esther
meets the warm closeness of Ruth,
where the hospitality of Lydia
is aligned with the submission of Mary,
which is engulfed in the tears of a praying Hanna.
I will be the one, drenched in Proverbs 31,
waiting for you.”
The dream became that someday someone would see these treasures within me and desire me for the value I would add to our relationship and home. I became resolved that the man who would find me as his wife, would find a treasure: a spirit-filled, Christ-led woman who would bring blessing and favor to all the days of his life.

What are some qualities you strive to express that are a reflection of biblical attributes?
Instead of a list of what you want from your husband. Make a list of the kind of wife you want to be.
Goals
What are three things that you can begin doing today to develop the godly qualities that will help you be the wife you want to be?
“The man who finds a wife finds a treasure,
and he receives favor from the Lord.
Proverbs 18:22
