Shame
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 2:25 [NIV]
Adam and Eve, the first humans created by God, were born into this world with NO SIN. Love and fellowship with God was all that consumed them. Adam and Eve's world was perfect in every sense of the word as beauty surrounded them and shaped them. There was no need for them to be self aware of anything, in the beginning. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve would sin later in life thus becoming the first of the human race to experience the grandfather of all curses, shame.
The topic of shame has not ceased in today's culture. In fact, the seed of shame has grown like a weed since its inception. In my daily life, the struggle is real for my internal Beauty, which is how God truly sees me, to manifest itself when the power of my shame, the embarrassment from my wrongful actions or behavior, exists so much stronger in this world.
Thankfully, I have a choice each day to choose the power of Christ, the One who is perfect and without sin, to renew and transform me from the Inside Out. His power can be received through prayer request and speaking God's word over our lives, which is alive and not dead. But most importantly, acknowledgement and surrender to Christ's saving grace and lordship must come first before the benefits of his power can exist in our lives. Then our broken hearts and mind have the hope of restoration, where feelings like shame cannot abide.
Do I submit an open heart to God each day?
What feelings of shame exist in my life? If any, do I believe the power of the Cross is greater than the shame in my life?
Father, thank you for showing us in your Word how our relationship with you was intended to be, close and confident. Thank you also for second chances. Your word says that sin leads to death, however, you gave us another chance to live eternally with you through the righteousness of your son, Jesus. Remind us each day to surrender our hearts to you so that we may know you more and follow you. Amen
