Listen Up to Work Your Way Up
"O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me," Nehemiah 1:11. Bosses. We all have them, but are we getting everything we can from them? Before you can get a promotion from your boss, you've got to get their wisdom. By "get" I don't mean, "in one ear and out the other". Are you taking what he/she asks you to do to heart? Are you listening to their correction and changing your ways, rather than picking up an offense? In the ultimate book of wisdom, Proverbs, chapter 13 tells us, whoever respects a command will succeed. Your boss is the key to whether you stay, go, become stuck or become increasingly successful. If you're not willing to bend and adhere to their advice, the next time a promotion comes around and you don't get it, you're going to be wondering what you did wrong. The good news is, with wisdom comes favor. When you look at people like Nehemiah and Esther, their stories are laced with favor. "...And the king granted these requests, because the gracious hand of God was on me," Nehemiah 2:8. Before Esther became queen, the bible tells us, "...she accepted the advice.." and "she was still following Mordecai's direction" It's only after these people were wise enough to take advice that they were taken to the next level. Pray that you'll find favor with your boss, but also, pray you'll be wise enough to adapt to the changes needed to reach your next success. Heavenly Father, Thank you for your discipline. I love discipline. Now that I've listened to the commands of those you've put in a place of leadership, be faithful to your word and bring me success. Let your heavy hand of favor rest upon my head. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
