Fashion + Faith: What does your closet say about you?

O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Psalm 139:1-3, New International Version

God knows us better than anyone. He knows you better than you know yourself! In fact, we will constantly be learning about the ways God made us unique. It’s both comforting and adventurous. When you learn more about yourself, you have the opportunity to grow on what you’ve learned, and hopefully share your newfound knowledge!

I can’t remember where I heard this quote, but I’ve always cherished it because of how much I identify with it: “Fashion says who you are or who you want to be.” Whether you know it or not, your choice in clothing says something about who you are. Clothes give (or take away) personality. Fashion tells the complete stranger something unique and personal about you. Even if you are wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, you are making a statement to everyone you come across today. Fashion will send a positive or negative message; there isn’t much middle ground. Kind of daunting? Maybe. But look at it as an opportunity to show confidence in knowing how God made you. Through fashion you have the ability to display the unique qualities given to you. Are you daring? Good, metallics are in. More reserved? So are pastels. There’s a reason why you prefer one designer to another- because it appeals to your taste, and taste reflects personality. Fashion is a way to characterize yourself and to empower yourself. So discover who you are, or who you want to be, and dress like it! Don’t forget to accessorize.

How do you see yourself now and how do you express that?

Do you want to change the way people perceive you?

What does your closet say about you?

God, give me the eyes to see how You see me, and the ability to reflect that. Help me understand my unique qualities. Remind me of my influence on others.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Psalm 139:15

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
