Whose Voice Controls Your Life? Condensed from “Making Sense of Your Life” by Anita Carman

What voice are you listening to in your life? Is it a voice that sets you free to soar or does it depress you, haunt you, or fill you with a sense of hopelessness and regret? How can you be sure that you are listening to God’s voice?

In the midst of what the Bible described in Genesis 1:2 as “the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep,” we hear God’s voice breaking through the silence and transforming the world. He said “Let there be light”. After speaking light into the world, God spoke into existence the seas, the sky, the land, the vegetation, the galaxy, the animals and birds, and the first man and woman.

God is not a dreamer who is practicing positive thinking. Instead, whatever God thinks, He then speaks, and whatever He speaks becomes a reality.  God has a one hundred percent success rate. God’s Word states the evidence of this fact. Listen to the words that tell us the result of God’s commands.

So when life isn’t so, why isn’t it so?

The first mention of the voice of the devil, who is jealous of us and wants us to miss out on God’s blessings, is also recorded in the book of Genesis. Genesis 3:1 reads:  Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?  The voice of the devil creates confusion and tries to make us doubt God’s instructions.

Perhaps you have listened to these words from the devil: “Did God really say you would be married happily ever after?”  “Did God really say He called you to be a mother? What kind of mother are you? Look at where your kids are today!” “Did God really say you would have a great career in this company? Look how you are pounding the pavement looking for work!” “Did God really say He would give you a best friend? Look how your best friend turned into your worst enemy and abandoned you!” The devil’s voice comes in a way to cause you to doubt God’s goodness.

Even if you have been deceived by the devil’s voice, you can choose this very second to start listening for God’s voice. Is now your moment to start tuning in to God’s voice and trust in God’s goodness?
