Walking towards the person you really want to be...& meant to be

Let's go back to the good ol' days...

Do you remember snuggling in tight between mom and dad, or in my case between two sisters, sharing a cozy blanket and a bowl overflowing with a mixture of Doritos and Cheetos and popping in a VHS of your favorite Disney movie? The thrill of discovering who will get the glass slipper or will Simba find his way home or Arielle get her voice back, Belle dancing with the Beast glowing with love, Lady and Tramp sharing a plate of spaghetti & meatballs - it's all so magical.

During our dating days, my husband and I sparked some magic of our own with our love for animated movies. Ratatouille, Wall-e, Toy Story, Finding Nemo - you name it, we watched them all, well, most of them. And if anyone knows my husband, knows that he is also a hardcore movie buff. Our master bedroom has a nook off to the side of the room (one of the high selling points for buying the place!) where an oversized orange chair sits surrounded by shelves of movies. The movies are organized by genre starting with action followed by drama, romantic comedy, thriller and suspense, and a few others, but the animated section is one of the largest in the bunch, hence our love for them. I'll let you in on a little secret. We even have a mini black binder categorizing every movie we own. This room, also known as the cuddle zone, has a pretty legit Blockbuster thing going on. And to continue adding to our collection, we started searching for the classics - The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, The Lion King, Aladdin - to reminisce with our future children. Haven Belle, our rambunctious 9-month-old prefers the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Kate & Mim-Mim right now but she'll come around, it's in her blood!

With an order of pizza and garlic knots on its way we popped in The Good Dinosaur. The husband made a pallet on the floor lined with a dozen pillows and a couple of blankets and the three of us snuggled in tight.

There was an asteroid. But it missed Earth. The dinosaurs continued to live out their lives on the planet. Poppa dino and Momma dino made a home on a piece of land raising crops with their three kiddos Buck, Libby, and Arlo. Arlo, the youngest, looked more like a lizard then a dinosaur. He was short, clumsy, and full of fear. But Poppa believed in him. "You can do it, son," he'd say. "I know you're strong enough. You have to get through your fear to see the beauty on the other side."

However, his siblings looked down on their brother who continually failed to make a mark on the world. Poppa gave Arlo one job to do, his purpose in the family, but because of fear and what he saw as limitations, the consequence of his inaction caused his family to labor harder for the upcoming winter stock. He allowed fear to paralyze him from his purpose. He knew his purpose. He believed in it. He was even ready for it. But then, F.E.A.R.

I won't spoil the movie for you (it's a good one to pick up!) but unfortunate events take place and Arlo finds himself alone and miles away from home. Scared, tired, and really hungry Arlo meets Spot, a Neanderthal boy who offers his help and friendship. During his journey back home with Spot by his side, hill by hill, through forests and rivers, Arlo begins to walk towards the person he always wanted to be, the person he knew he was meant to be - fearless, roaring with purpose.

He was scared, but he pressed on. He messed up, big time, but he was doing something, moving forward. He remembered who he was made to be. His buddy Spot has quite a story too. You have two broken people, side by side, making things happen. They didn't care what everyone around them were doing. They had a destination, a dream, a drive to pursue their purpose full force and nobody could tell them how big their dream should and could be. When you say, "Heck yes, let's be fearless and do something!" you could be the answer to someone's prayer. You won't just be changing your story, but someone else's story as well.

Remember who God has made you to be. It's in you, you just need some reminding - like Arlo.
