The To-do List vs. The Dream
Oh, the hustle and bustle of being a 21st century woman! Where does the time go? The to-do list seems to never end and lunch with a friend never seems to happen. Where did this long laundry list of expectations for my life come? Ugh! Surely, this isn’t what God created me for!
Yet I always seem to find that another day has passed and I didn’t take a moment to ask God what He had planned for me. My plans for the day were well thought out and each task was accomplished, but I didn’t get any closer to my dream. The dream I know God has placed in my heart. The dream He has whispered during my quiet times with Him. The dream I can’t seem to shake when I wake up or go to sleep. Why didn’t I just take item off my list and replace it with a dream step?
So, the questions is, “What shall we do tomorrow when the alarm wakes our restful sleep reminding us that another busy day has just begun?” Will our laundry list of to-do’s take precedent over the dreams we have, yet again? No, not today! God created you for a purpose and placed you in this space of history to leave a mark for the generations to come. All you have to do is say, “Yes!”
I know, it’s easier said than done, especially when we are faced with school, work, crying babies, or an endless sea of dishes. But, those things will be taken care of, I promise. You are a woman who has been crafted by the master designer for such a time as this. He has given you talents, gifts, and ideas that He longs for you to pour out on the world around you. Take hold of it today, one task at a time. You’ll be surprised to find that God will supply you with enough time to cook dinner and spend with friends. Walking out the dreams God has for you is a sweet spot like no other.
So tonight, as you snuggle up in your bed hearing those sweet whispers of a dream again we can’t seem to shake, make a promise to yourself and God that tomorrow’s list will be a new one! One, which reflects a dream-step that will carry you into your destiny becoming the woman you were created to be!
Psalm 139: 13-16 (Message)
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
Ephesians 2:10 (Message)
He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.
