Havin' Fun in the Summer Time - Austin Style

I’m looking forward to this Saturday.  Me and my friend Stacy Cook are going to have some summer fun in Austin.  It’s our way of making sure we are “keeping Austin weird.”  :)  We’re starting out the day with lunch at Beets Café.  Beets is a living foods café.  It’s a vegan restaurant that has gluten free selections as well.  We’ve heard great things about it, but this will actually be our first time at this restaurant.  One of my newest favorites is Snack Bar Austin on South Congress.  The Bulgogi BBQ Sliders are absolutely phenomenal!

There are two outdoor activities I love doing: kayaking and hiking.  Stacy Cook and I have embarked on these two activities in Austin for the last 6 years.

After lunch, we are going kayaking on Lady Bird Lake.  There are two spots we like to kayak from: Texas Rowing Center  and Zilker Park Boat Rentals.  Both spots are great to kayak from and the people that work there are helpful and fun.  There are lots of turtles, ducks, and fellow kayakers on Lady Bird Lake.  I love it because you get a great workout, a tan (of course you need to put on your share fair of sunscreen and always reapply), and lots of Austin sites to behold.

Hiking is always an adventure.  You never know what you’re going to see or the type of terrain you’re going to encounter until you truly get on the trail.  The Barton Creek Greenbelt has trails for anyone no matter what fitness level you are at.  If you want a strenuous hike, check out the Hill of Life trail.  For something a little easier, Wild Basin trail off of highway 360 is easy breezy.

Summer in Austin is a great time.  So grab a girlfriend or go with yourself, because yourself is a great person to be around!  Whatever you do, take time to make memories.
