Sick & Tired of being Sick & Tired

It’s funny the things you remember.

In second grade my parents took our family to a hole-in-the-wall diner in Dallas, Texas. It was dark, eclectic, and housed the most random artifacts within its brown, paneled walls. They turned my sisters and me loose with quarters and off we went. I can vividly remember walking up to one game, putting my quarters in the machine, and placing my palm facedown to retrieve the adjective that best described me.

Meek.

I got meek.

More like meh – at least that’s how my 8-year-old self felt. My sister got beautiful, and that was way cooler than just meek. The machine was correct – my sister is beautiful, and I am [for the most part] forever meek.

Now don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being meek. In fact, as I have grown older and wiser I fully understand that being meek is a great quality to possess. Matthew 5:5 states that the meek are blessed. In fact, one of the attributes of the Proverbs 31 woman is meekness.

However; there comes a time in every woman’s life where she has to push past her meek demeanor, dig deep, and grab ahold of the boldness that Jesus Christ has placed within her. In southern talk, there comes a time when you have to grab the bull by the horns.

I mean look at the lady with the issue of blood.

12 years, y’all. 12 long years. Can you imagine? She suffered, she was shunned, and she was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I picture the scene like Black Friday at Wal-Mart. No doubt she was strategic. I’m certain she had the whole area mapped out. She knew what she was going to get, and nothing was going to stand in her way. I wish I could have seen the look in her eyes that day. I bet it was fierce. After all, she was on a mission to take back what God had given her – her life.

She pushed past the crowd. She pushed past her own doubts and fears, and she grabbed ahold of God. In that moment this scorned, sick lady was anything but meek. She was brave. She was bold. She was healed.

Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.” (Matthew 9:22)

So let me ask you this question: What can and will you do to claim your healing?

CREATED WOMAN AGUST LINE UP: HEALING/SELF-CARE

Self-care is not selfish!

Self-care most often requires us to take steps towards understanding our hurts, disappointments, griefs, or life transitions. It’s not selfish, it’s a necessity. For you and the ones who are around you.

August theme is all about self-care. Yes, it might actually be called ‘Healing’ but aren’t they the same?

We believe we cannot be our best self unless we embrace the beauty of God’s healing power. By walking through and in His grace, we experience healing, strength, peace and restoration ultimately bringing life to others in our family and community.

Don’t walk alone, your tribe is right here and we want to walk beside you.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV):When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
