I’m gonna be really real with y’all. Totally raw. I’m a positive Polly through and through. Sunshine and rainbows. Unicorns and glitter. Whatever you want to call it - that’s me.
To people that are not positive Polly’s I’m a lot to take, and I know that. In the past, I have even tried to rein my positivity in. In certain situations I would plan ahead of time to stay silent to avoid getting on people’s nerves. In fact, before I became more confident with whom I am in Christ [my identity] I would sometimes succumb to negative chatter. I would join in the conversation because that’s what everyone around me was doing. I didn’t want to be different. I didn’t want people to think that I was pretentious. I truly felt like being uber positive was a deep personality flaw. How about that for believing a lie from the devil?
I would feel different.
I would get uncomfortable.
I would feel judged.
I would try to change myself.
Not too long ago an extremely influential woman in my life put her foot down and in hindsight opened my eyes. She told me that I was going to speak up. I was going to be positive - and that I was NOT going to change who I am for anyone.
I’m glad I listened.
I am positive. I’m positive that in Christ everything is going to be ok.
I’m positive that In Christ I can have joy in every situation - even the bad ones.
I’m positive that In Christ I have peace. I’m positive that in Christ I have hope.
In Christ I am positive through and through that He loves me, and that He wants me to love you and you and you.
I’m a positive Polly through and through, and I’m positively ok with that.
Dear Created Woman, don’t change who you are for anyone except your Creator. Be you. Be faithful. Be confident.
After all, you are God’s girl.
Reflection
1. What is a controversial aka “hard to swallow” aspect of your personality that you have been tempted to change in order to fit in?
2. What is one attribute of your personality that you embrace?
3. How has your identity in Christ changed as you grow closer to Him?
Goal Setting & Sharing
What actions can you set in motion this week to become more grounded in your identity as a Created Woman?
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.(1 Peter 2:9 ESV)
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind.(Ephesians 4:17 NKJV)
That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24 NKJV)
