My Go-To Third Piece
When You Can’t Have it All, Have a Little Fun
Each spring and winter, I like to take some time and read about all the fashion trends and staples for the season. I like to highlight what will be my must have items, even write them down, before venturing out to shop. It makes shopping easy, fun, and keeps me on point.
But I have now hit a wall with a little obstacle this season because I have been limited on time and extra shopping money. Knowing that, it is tempting to give up. Who cares, right? Then I remind myself that even if I may not be able to get all the things I love, I am NOT going to stop caring.
So instead, I identify my go-to third piece!
What does this mean? It’s a finishing touch like an accessory or add-on piece to my outfit that I can do well. How can I take an outfit that has been in the closet for a while and add one new item? Can I add a fun jacket with a pair of jeans or dress? Can I add one accessory for a punch— like a long staple necklace or fun ring? What about a pop of color with a new purse?
Identifying what I can do instead of what I want to do has been my motto for years in many areas of my life. It helps me avoid feeling defeated or giving up completely.
And so, it is the same with fashion now.
Right now, I would love to dive in to the hottest trends, but I will have to put that on hold for just a bit. I won’t be giving up on fashion or working toward being fabulous at 50. There is always something I can do as a Created Woman who is an ambassador for Christ. I choose to change it up a little this season and identify my one thing that allows me to show up well.
