Renovate: Bring back to life again

A few weeks ago while driving in rush hour traffic I saw white pick up truck driving down the freeway loaded down with tools and dirt in the bed. On the back of the truck, the name of the company struck a cord with me. It simply read, “Re.” Below the company name, the words were written:

As I read the words, I thought, how innovative! Every single word began with the letters R & E and each one meant to bring back to life or, make something old new. I have to admit we, too, are in a season of renovation pulling up ten year old carpet replacing with wood-like tile that is much more acceptable to the wear and tear of children. So things like this old, white pick up truck seem to stand out to me, as I feel like I’ve been looking through new eyes at old spaces every where I turn. Seeing what once was and restoring back to it’s original beauty or making old worn down corners come to life again.

Renovate.

Fascinated by the letters, R E, I had to look up the meaning and under a list of words in wikipedia, it stated: re means again.

The words remind me about a season I was in not too long ago where God had me in a place of rest; pause. It was a time for me to clear my to-do list and study. Listen to His voice; find His voice; find myself again and to remember the why. There is it again…RE-member.

During that season, I posted a blog entitled, Lost: Where do I go from Here? that focused on the act of rest; true rest that comes only when we hand over all of our plans just to sit and listen to the plans God has for us. It’s then, and only then, can restoration even begin in our lives.

Restoration: The act of restoring – healing – bring to health – recovery – repair.

So with these words, these letters R E, I’m focused and determined to find out more; what do they mean and how do they work in my life? What areas is God trying to put an R E in front of? Where does He want to restore me and renew me? What does He want to bring back to life again?

And so I sit. Resting and listening. Researching.

REpairing what has been damaged. REstoring what has been lost. REsting in His Presence and REnewing the passion for the call God has on my life.

I’m being restored. I’m being renovated from the inside out.

It’s it time for you to find the R & E in your life this year and rediscover who He created you to be bringing back to life that which has gotten old, walked over and forgotten.

Jeremiah 33: 6-9

“But now take another look. I’m going to give this city a thorough renovation, working a true healing inside and out. I’m going to show them life whole, life brimming with blessings. I’ll restore everything that was lost to Judah and Jerusalem. I’ll build everything back as good as new. I’ll scrub them clean from the dirt they’ve done against me. I’ll forgive everything they’ve done wrong, forgive all their rebellions. And Jerusalem will be a center of joy and praise and glory for all the countries on earth. They’ll get reports on all the good I’m doing for her. They’ll be in awe of the blessings I am pouring on her.
