Fashion and Humanity Team Up With Heart and Love

There are so many reasons to love fashion. There is the art, the beauty, the excitement and the magic of it as well. Life can sometimes weigh us down and tire us.  But, just put on a fabulous outfit, some fun shoes, makeup, style your hair and a Cinderella moment is born when leaders are ready to take on the day, or a busy woman feels refreshed.

My belief is that there is more to fashion than the surface that we all see, and what it can really do for us. When you put fashion and humanity together with heart and love, things happen that are beyond beautiful.

I have had the honor and privilege to volunteer at the Dell Children’s Hospital Blood and Cancer Clinic here in Austin, Texas, for the past four years. I have helped with so many events, and one of my personal favorites is the prom that is held every year. This prom is special as it recreates that special prom experience for those patients who are unable to attend their own prom due to illness or caution of other illnesses. With this event, the kids get to pick out a beautiful gown from Austin Fairy Godmother Boutique, get hair and makeup done by professionals and get to enjoy a night of dancing and attention. The kids truly shine and feel amazing.

From my volunteer experience at Dell, the dream/vision was born in my head and heart - A Fashion Show!

The Created Woman family has supported me in styling various events and shows. With the experience and connections I made through working during that time, I knew I could make an event happen that lined up with my vision. The cancer patients would be the focus of a show and get all the model treatment and more. I mentioned this thought to several people, and a show was immediately born.

We are now in our second year of the CCBC Fashion Show! What a blessing!!! The kids are signing up and getting ready to walk the runway. This year’s show is double in size, and we couldn’t be more excited. There will be shopping, food, dancing, fashion and lots of love!!

The added amazing feature of this particular show is that all money raised from the silent auction, donations and portions of the vendors proceeds go back to support the Hungry Bunch Teen Support Group at the cancer clinic. The best part of the show is how it creates such happiness for the boys and girls who participate. Last year a young lady commented on how being sick, she didn’t always feel beautiful, but that day she felt so beautiful.

Parents were shedding tears and wearing the biggest, proudest smiles. That is what this show is about. It’s about creating a special experience for these brave, strong, inspiring kids that have faced something so incredibly hard and have walked through it.

The following links show the success of last year’s show and just a hint of what’s to come this year.

These kids and their families have had to fight struggles that no words can really describe. Yet, they show up with smiles on their faces and asking me what they can do to help. I am in awe of all of the kids, siblings and parents. They are all examples of strength, faith and courage. This show is to give them a moment to relax, enjoy, feel so much love and leave feeling as beautiful and amazing as they deserve to feel.

Please join us on May 1st. The fashion show is open to the public and for all ages. We are asking for a small donation at the door if possible. This show promises to be a heart-filled, happy event that will, not only provide the patients joy, but those who are there to support them as well.

To me, this exemplifies beautifully the idea of Fashion and Faith, and it will be an experience you will never forget.
