Why Worry?

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Psalm 55:22 NIV

Worry is a sly and consuming enemy. It consumes our thoughts, our actions, and most importantly, our priorities. So often we dismiss worry as necessary stress, or a natural part of our day to day life. It seems as though as long as we are living and working, worry is inescapable. Stress goes hand in hand with life’s constantly changing circumstances. However, God did not intend for us to be in a perpetual state of worry. He tells us to give our worries to Him so that we may be free from its tight grip and open to His peace. By choosing to worry, we doubt God’s ability to take care of us. By continuing to cast our cares on the Lord, we practice our trust in him.

The most practical way to eliminate worry is to pray constantly. Not only when worry is overwhelming, but also when we face small obstacles. Constant prayer is how we attain God’s peace and release worry’s grip on our minds. No worry is too small for God, because every little worry is a distraction from Him. Bring everything to Him in prayer. Constantly talk to God throughout your day and solve problems that come your way together through communication. Let Him have your worry, and He will grant you peace.

Think About It

Does worry plague your mind?

What do you hold onto too tightly?

Talk About It

God, remind me to take my worries to you first. Help me to communicate with you more often. Grant me peace as I walk with you and trust you with my cares.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
