Light is color
I walked into my closet and thought, what happened in here?
(Have you ever asked that question in your closet?)
It was as if there was a drain in the center of my closet and someone had power-washed all the color out of my clothes and down the drain. Everything in there was black, brown and gray.
I was coming out of one of the darkest seasons of my life. I didn’t intentionally stop wearing color. It just happened. My closet began to reflect my soul.
I have nothing against brown, black and gray, but I am an 80’s girl. I am orange, fuschia, teal and magenta!
It’s fascinating to me that I didn’t realize what was happening in my closet while it was happening. I only noticed the grayness of my closet after light be began to shine in my heart again.
Light shines in the darkness!
In the depths of my despair I found this promise in the Bible:
You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;my God turns my darkness into light. Psalm 18:28 NIV
God turns darkness into light? That is exactly what I needed. Maybe you are in a dark, dingy place right now. I want you encourage you to watch for the light.
As light began to break through for me, it wasn’t like flipping on a white bulb in a black room. It was a rainbow slowly emerging through my gray skies.
Light is not just white. Light is color!
Do you remember that weird acronym for the colors of the rainbow? Roy G. Biv? It’s pure nonsense but somehow helps us remember - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. These are the colors of the visible light spectrum.
Our world was masterfully fashioned by the Creator in millions of vibrant colors. True color is defined as 256 shades of red, green and blue for a total of 16,777,216 color variations. That is an enormous number.
But not only did God paint the world in living color, he intricately created your eyes to absorb and interpret every shade.
Color affects our emotions, mood and outlook.
Color matters because beauty matters.
What is the first thing a designer does to refresh a drab room? Add color!
When I realized what happened in my closet I determined to add color. I wanted to reflect on the outside what God was doing on the inside.
I made it through that dreary season of struggle because of the hope and light I found in God’s word.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
