JOY - Say it with me!
Do you ever look at your “Be joyful always”
I Thessalonians 5:16 (NIV)
Knowledge to Build On
I’ve spent my week in the book of Ecclesiastes, questioning my work & accomplishments – AKA the meaning of life. If you’re not familiar with the book, read through it beginning to end sometime. It’s raw; it’s real! The middle of Chapter 2 caught my attention when the Teacher talks about hating life because of work and pouring his soul into something that at the end of the day is quite meaningless; but it concludes by reminding us that there is nothing better than to eat, drink and enjoy the gifts God has blessed us with while finding satisfaction in our work.
Life in the Now
For people who know me let me start by saying I don’t hate my job, but I’d be lying if I said I was psyched about going to work each and every morning. It’s far from my dream job of either starring on Broadway or becoming a professional television watcher (I love Crime Dramas!). Why do I stay?
God has reminded me why I am where I am. People. I’ve invested time and prayer and it’s amazing how much concern I have for my co-workers personal and professional lives. His direction has been pretty clear – support for others during challenging times and living by example. My favorite part of being there for them is to make them laugh by telling them about my crazy dreams, Mommy moments and to randomly read Laffy Taffy jokes & fortune cookie fortunes, “You like Spicy food”.
If you struggle finding JOY in your work, make it a point to provide a joyous moment for someone else. You will reap what you sow.
Think About It
Joy comes to those who have been faithful and obedient with what God has given them.
Are you where you’re supposed to be? What is your purpose there?
Talk About It
Father in heaven, thank you using my talents to glorify you. Continue to show me your will so that I might be satisfied with the work I do and exude joy while doing it.
