It's Not up to You
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,"Philippians 1:6 NIV.
A school yard fight. Two children begin to scuffle until they're separated. One quickly points a finger to the other in defense crying, "He started it!" Life has a way of pushing us around.
Just when you think you're at your wits end, something else comes along, taking you that much further to your breaking point.
Feeling like I had been sucker-punched by circumstances, I recently found myself asking, "Lord, what more can I do?"
And then it dawned on me: it's not up to me. I didn't ask to go on this journey. When God asked me to take a leap of faith, I was obedient and said, "yes,". He started this. Jesus, started this and he can be trusted to finish it.
Know how much the world weighs? Simply put, too much for you or I too carry. Then why are we trying to? Neither you nor I have the genetic composition to physically carry our struggles. But I know someone who can. Jesus.
Today, any one of us can be that child in the school yard. But recognize the person that "started it" is God. As it says in the book of Ephesians, "having done all else, stand,".
Heavenly Father,
Give me the strength to stand. The responsibility to "make it happen" has long been taken out of my hands. Remind of this fact every day. Help strengthen my trust is you as you and you alone are working things out. Amen.
