He's Your Boyfriend and He's Not Your Match
"Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it," Luke 9:23-24.
He's sexy, driven, knows how to roll out the red carpet for you, sensitive and intelligent. Dang, what's not to love? But is your boyfriend a man of God? Ay, ya, yai....so close to "perfection"!
Truth of the matter is, if your dream-boat isn't surrendered to God, you may have bitten off more than you can chew. To use a phrase once spoken to me, "I'm hearing you, but I'm not understanding you." Darling, you are speaking a foreign language to him.
I get you don't want to seem "holier than though". If you're like me, you're waiting for the Latino version of Joel Osteen to come waltzing through your door. Cue "Prince Charming".
Hmmm... Is this what he's supposed to look like? You try to reason with yourself. "Just because he's not kneeling before an alter, has his hands raised in worship and spending quiet time with the Lord, doesn't mean he isn't my mate."
Those answers may work for a while, but before you know it, you may find yourself compromising.
Listen, if you desire a man that worships the God you serve, how much more does God want that? Don't settle. If ol' princie-boy doesn't "get it", it's not your job to teach him. God calls each of us at different times. But the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. It won't force anyone into relationship with God. Surrender isn't easy, but it's essential.
Move on, sister. If God chooses to resurrect that man, so be it. Re-asses if and when it happens. Until then, keep following your intended course. Matthew 7:14 confirms it won't be easy, but if that were the case, everyone would do it. "But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it,".
Papa,
I'm hurting. I'm relying on your peace and love to comfort me. Have your way in my life and his.
If we are meant to be together, let no demon in hell pull us apart.
But if you have something greater for me, continue giving me courage to stand strong and move ahead.
