God, Gluten, & Grace

Hi. My name is Daisy, and I am a celiac. God, gluten, and grace are literally the only three things I talk about.

I’m not sure which adjective describes how I let gluten invade my body – lazy, cocky, busy; nonetheless, it happened and it hurt. I have been suffering for three weeks now all because I let my guard down.

It’s a tedious lifestyle that requires self-control, a ton of planning, and let’s be honest – missing out. With celiac disease, one slip-up can wreak havoc on my livelihood for weeks, and that’s no exaggeration.

Being down and out permitted me some time alone to reflect on how letting my guard down physically correlates with letting my guard down spiritually. After all, isn’t this the same thing we do in our relationship with Christ? We get to feeling good. We get in a routine. We get comfortable — and we let our guard down. Before we know it something small slips its way in and takes over.

Having a meaningful relationship with Christ requires work. A lot of work. We should be so hyper-focused on this relationship that we don’t allow ourselves to get lazy. We can’t afford or allow ourselves to get comfortable.

We have to put in the work. We have to practice self-control, we have to plan, and we may even have to miss out on some things. Loving God takes time and intentionality. But guess what – having a healthy, meaningful relationship with Christ is so worth it.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” – 1 Peter 5:8

Personal reflection

1.     Have you ever experienced a time when something minute turned into something much bigger?

2.     How were you able to get back on track after experiencing said setback?

3.     Where are you in the CW process of fulfilling God's purpose for your life? (dreams, healing, Identity, Health, Purpose, Inside/Out/Fashion)
