Pursue those dreams even with a busy schedule

In the book of Luke, we find the story of sisters Mary and Martha and the difference in how they respond when Jesus and his disciples visiting sisters’ home. I think about what a once in a lifetime experience that was for them. Mary sits at the feet of Jesus and Martha frantically tries to be the hostess with the mostest running around the home preparing a meal for well over 15 people. I can surely relate to Martha, even today the expectation is set high for women to be gracious servant hostesses.

As a wife, mother of two special needs daughters, a stay at home – work from home mom, preparing to go to graduate school, writer, I could easily give into the notion of being too busy and too distracted, like Martha was, and too this or that to do what God has called me to do. But I won’t.

My biggest adventure is parenting my daughters. They as a pair and individually require so much of me but I don’t mind. Even though I get challenged to my core daily, I love my girls and would do anything for them. Just like Martha was ready to do anything for her guests. But for a while I didn’t know what my other God given purpose was and I wasn’t doing anything to live out my dreams. I was kind of just going through life’s motions and serving from an empty cup. Yes, I know. It’s so not healthy, but it was my lifestyle for so long.

Building a relationship with God, like Mary at the feet of Jesus, and fasting more has really given me insight to what God created me to do. Even though my life’s plate is filled like the first hungry plate at a buffet, God continues to impress on me to follow the dreams He has given me. Even during my weeks packed with my daughters’ doctor and therapy appointments, ESY (extended school year), potty training, dishes, laundry, orders to fulfill, dinner to make, studying to do, and writing projects, God makes me so uncomfortable with mediocrity that I must take a small step each day to walk out my God-given purpose of writing, encouraging women, and serving the special needs community.

Surely if this highly caffeinated, Jesus loving mama can do it – I believe you can too!

Below are some reflective questions. I invite you to answer these and if you need any help doing so, reach out to any Created Woman representative or myself. We are your tribe!

Reflection

  1. What is your God-given dream for your life?
  2. What is one thing you can do today to make it happen?
  3. Who can you ask to be your accountability partner?

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
