Whose You Are
This month of May I will be celebrating a monumental birthday, my 30th. Every birthday I use it as a new year, in that I reflect on what went well last year and what didn’t, what lessons did I learn and how will I apply them to my life going forward. I also like to revisit who I am and most importantly whose I am.
In the Bible, there are many verses that relate to identity and being God’s chosen people. I like to choose a verse to meditate and affirm as a reminder of my identity and whose I am.
One that is a favorite is in Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV). Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. Knowing that God created my life for his special purpose puts a peace in my heart and a joy in my step when life gets rough.
Here are a few more.
1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
John 1:12 (NIV) Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
If any of these scriptures resonate with you, try to meditate on it and claim it as yours. When focusing on a scripture, I like to put it everywhere as a reminder. For instance, as a screensaver on my phone, on post-it-notes and stick it in a frequent spot I visit - my car dashboard, kitchen sink counter, or bathroom mirror. Feel free to place them in your preferred spots. The point is to see it often and claim the scriptures as yours.
Knowing your identity of who you are and whose you are is vital in walking in your God-given purpose.
