How to Stay Focused on Our Purpose in Every Season of Life
After waiting forty-five minutes in my car for my daughter and friends in the school pickup line, my car suddenly fills up with a load of middle schoolers. I now have a decision to make.
“Do I continue thinking about all of the things I have to do, or am I going to be intentional and purposeful with the time that has been given me today with my kids in this season of life?”
Reflect on that question for a minute, and we will come back to it.
I believe that God has created us with talents and passions to be used for something greater than ourselves, and He will continue to use it until the very end of our life. So, how do we continue to be intentional with our calling and stay focused on it in every season of life?
Don’t Give Up
I can be guilty of this. Sometime we give up so quickly because we think nothing is happening. Could it be we have been given a season that God wants to bring healing to our soul or do little character building? (I hate the character building!)
Evaluate the Number of Hats
It is easy to say yes to many things and take on many hats/ roles. But, sometimes saying "yes" to so many things takes time away from the one thing God has called us to do.
I once heard, "If the devil can’t make you sin, he will keep you busy." Is it time to let go of some of the hats and responsibilities and discover how to use your talents and manage your time better for a great purpose?
Embrace Your Current Roles
In this season of life, are you a wife, mother, caregiver, employee? The Bible is very clear on how we are to fulfill each one of those roles in our life. I have to stop myself at times and ask, "Am I honoring God in my current roles at this moment in life?"
Proverbs 3:5-6 says that we are to acknowledge him in all our ways, and He will make our path straight.
Sometimes we are sitting and waiting on this "big thing," and God is asking us to first be obedient in our every day purpose as He has commanded us to be.
So, back to my question: “Do I do continue thinking about all of the things I have to do, or am I going to be intentional and purposeful with the time that has been given me today with my kids at this very moment?”
I won't wear the hat of taxi driver forever. These children have been placed in my hand to guide them according to God's ways. I think I will pause from my “to do” list and engage with my children and love them the way God commands me to do.
