Life on Facebook - Part I
At the urging of my two adult daughters, I consented to create a “Facebook” Account, and entered into the realm of mystical cyberspace. Girlfriend, let me tell you, I have learned some stuff that goes on in the lives of people on my Friends List. I know what time they get up in the morning, when they go to bed at night, when their dogs have puppies, who has a broken romance, who had their gall bladder removed, and who needs an egg on Farmville. As I was plowing through zillions of pictures of kids and grandkids of my friends, I discovered my very best friend had had a birthday party when we were in first grade, and didn’t invite me.
Last night tears filled my eyes when I read the Most Recent News Feed that my next door neighbor had invited two of our friends to go to the movies with her, but didn’t include me. Now, I don’t like my childhood friend or my neighbor anymore. It all happened with my new Life on Facebook!
Call it the era in which I grew up in, but I had made a vow to myself: “I’ll never make a comment to anyone in cyber space about anything that goes on in mine and my family’s life.” However, I began having this nagging feeling inside of me saying: “You hypocrite!” “You enjoy reading everybody else’s juicy posts, but you refuse to open up about yourself.” Ugh!!
And so, my dear Facebook Friends, as well as the rest of the world wide web, I have to make a confession: “My family is dysfunctional!” OMG! I can’t believe I have just confessed to 500 million people on the world’s largest social network that my family is dysfunctional! Grandma would turn over in her grave!!
Wait! Please give me a moment to explain what “dysfunctional” means before deleting me from your Friends List. My pastor, David Berkeheimer, gave his own definition of dysfunctional: “Dysfunctional just simply means when somebody is not carrying their load.”
Okay!! I’m sure your eyes are clued to your computer screen just dying to know who is causing all this dysfunction in my family. Well, let’s just say that there has been a little nudge within ME lately that seems to be telling ME that I could be the solution to the dysfunction in my family rather than the problem.
The little voice within also gave me another nudge: “if I’m to become the woman God created me to be, MY FAMILY is the first place I should start.”
How about you? Any inward nudges?
