What If Noah Said No?

God’s dreams are bigger & better than our dreams

It all began a year ago. I was sitting on my bedroom floor folding clothes when God threw me - what I thought at the time - was a crazy, out of control curveball. Has that ever happened to you? You’re going along with life minding your own business and WHAM - God shakes things up.

A non-profit. God wanted me to start a non-profit that would help meet the physiological needs of kids so that they could be successful academically. Fear crept in.

·       But I’ve never owned a business!

·       But I don’t know how to file the legal paperwork!

·       But nobody will give money to this endeavor!

And on and on and on and on. I didn’t tell a soul what God was asking me to do; I simply told God all the reasons why I could not do it.

After three weeks of wrestling and arguing with God, I finally gave in. Would you believe that as soon as I told my husband what God wanted me to do, I received a text from a powerful prayer warrior that I had not heard from in months? It was a text telling me to trust God because He was blessing the path that He was sending me down. Woah!

He has definitely blessed the path this last year. We have helped students from Texas to Wisconsin. We’ve purchased everything from shoes to eye appointments to lice treatment. Whatever the students needed, God provided through our non-profit. Man, I’m glad I said yes. I can’t imagine missing out on this dream that I didn’t even know I wanted. I mean, I had just published my first book. I thought that was my dream - my purpose.

I can’t help but think about Noah, and Rahab, and Moses, and Mary, and Jonah. I mean my goodness - don’t you know all of them were terrified. Some of them argued with God. Some of them fled. Some of them didn’t bat an eye, but just said yes! In the end, they all committed to God’s mission and were able to see His will unfold in the most beautiful way.

I don’t want to miss out on that. I don’t want to miss out on what God has in store specifically for me just because I am scared. I was right, though. I wasn’t smart enough or strong enough or business savvy enough - but God was. Philippians 4:13 states. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

If Noah would have said no, God’s plan would have still come to fruition, but Noah wouldn’t have been on that boat. However, Noah was obedient and God entrusted him with mankind’s future. He blessed Noah beyond measure.

Dear Created Woman, I don’t want to miss that boat. I don’t want to miss the big, God-sized dreams that my Creator has in store for me. Fear is a liar, y’all. So my advice for you is to strap on your lifejacket and get to going.

Reflection

  1. Are you wrestling with a dream that God has placed on your heart that you didn’t know you had? What is the dream?

  2. If you don’t take the steps to fulfill this dream what would the repercussions be? If you do take the steps to fulfill this dream what would the blessings be?

  3. What Bible character can you relate to when it comes to Godly dreams? Jonah, Noah, Rahab, or another? How so?

Goals

Write one goal you can accomplish today (at home, at work, with family, etc.) that will give you the confidence to reach your dreams.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  (Psalms 37:4 KJV)

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NIV)
