How to determine your ‘yeses’ and ‘No’s’

{Excerpt from Fashion Devotional found in the
Faith + Fashion Box Quarter 1 2022}

“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Matthew 5:37).

This past October, the CW Family gathered to shoot the first three of six Dream Launcher Connection classes, and when I say we had no idea what was about to happen, we had no idea! I mean, we planned, had an outline of discussion, and so on, but we did not know how awesome the day would be and just how powerful the Holy Spirit would show up!

As a team, we knew it was important to lather the day in prayer, so before we began shooting, each one of us took to the center of a circle as the others laid hands on us and prayed blessings, prophecies, and healing. Then we gathered around the team of four videographers and prayed for them, understanding that after the full day of shooting was done for us, their job was just beginning! With weeks of editing ahead of them, we prayed for peace and vision and for their wives to have patience and to feel loved and valued.

Then the shooting began. One by one, each panel sat down to discuss their given topic: Dreams, then Healing, and finally Identity. As an audience member myself, I sat in awe of each woman who poured out her heart, shared her experience, and explained what God had taught her through her circumstances.

When the Identity panel took the stage, Stacy McVane spoke about her top five priorities and how everything she does revolves around these five things only. It is how she stays in line with what God has specifically called her to do without getting sidetracked. In short, if an opportunity presents itself to her and it doesn’t fall into her top five priorities, then it is a ‘no.’ If it does, then it is an easy ‘yes.’

During the discussion, she breezed right through with ease until one of the audience members stopped and asked, “What are your top five again, and how did you decide on those five only?”

By now you may be thinking the same thing: How did she know her top five? But the truth is, it took time, years, and prayer for her to narrow them down, and it all came down to her knowing and understanding her identity in Christ and who He created her to be.

We can so often get caught up in saying yes to so many things, thinking we are being helpful or good godly women, but the truth is, when we say yes to things that are outside of who God created us—our identity—then we are saying no to things we actually should be doing instead.

My prayer for each one of you as you read this devotional is for you to discover more deeply your identity in Christ and who He created you to be, because as you do, you will move with ease into the next step, your purpose. It’s then and only then that you will begin saying yes to the very purpose for which you were born.

XOXO,

Heather

Women are inundated with the expectation of having a full life and yet the pace of our lives in every area are completely overwhelming and unrealistic. With commitments of faith, family, church, community, and career looming over our heads, women wonder what they should do, what they can do and what they want to do.Now more than ever, women have been given the opportunity for their voices to be heard and are actually being heard and valued more than ever. But with that opportunity, comes great responsibility ever increasing the question: Where do I fit, now and what do I want to say most? - Ephesians 4:24
