Tickets to the Tents NYC Fashion Week: Spring 2014 Collections – Day 1
Day 1 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion was busy as ever for the Fashion Mingle media team.
We attended multiple shows, headed backstage for interviews & behind the scenes footage, and captured street-style looks. Combing through all of our day 1 coverage we have developed the below trend report from Day 1 of MB Fashion Week.
COLOR - Marking a change from previous seasons, the focus on bold, bright colors for springtime seems to have fallen by the wayside. Garments were sent down the runway in white and neutral tones in multiple shows, from Nicholas K & Candela to BCBGMaxAzria.

FIT – Draping is still a popular choice for Nicholas K, but overall the silhouettes are moving from skinny and tight or boho loose, to “slightly” loose & fitted giving an overall more relaxed & classic chic feel to the collections. BCBGMAXAZRIA displays this concept perfectly in the below picture with a cinched waist, but overall away from the body look.

HAIR & MAKEUP – Braids will once again be a popular choice and were the number one style presented on the models, from fishtail braids at Nicholas K to intricately woven 6 stranded bun-braids at Supima. Model makeup focused on giving the illusion of hanging out on a beach and returning with sun-kissed, natural look with flesh tone colors and subtle lip stains.

PRINTS – Prints will always be popular for the Spring. Bold prints will return in a variety of fashion from featuring one print as shown by Richard Chai’s collection to the still popular mixing print trend seen in BCBGMAXAZRIA.

FABRIC – Sheer fabrics continue to be a popular choice by many designers, playing peek-a-boo with the skin, as evident in many Tadashi Shoji gowns. In addition to sheer fabrics, expect to see lace, and leather placements on clothing.
