Go Forward
Pretend you are standing on the banks of The Red Sea watching the following scene unfold before you, as it did in Exodus 14.
Moses had just led over six hundred thousand Israelites, along with their herd of cattle, out of Egypt where they had been slaves for over 400 years. At last they were on their way to Canaan, the land God had promised was theirs to inherit.
But Pharaoh, the Egyptian king and his army, came after them in hot pursuit. When the Israelites saw Pharaoh and his army coming, they began to cry out to Moses: "It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die out here in The Wilderness."
But, God spoke to Moses and said:
“Tell the children of Israel to GO FORWARD." (Exodus 14:15)
Can’t you just hear the Israelites shout in unison, "Go forward? The Red Sea is in front of us! Are you sure, God ?"
Then all of a sudden, you hear God give Moses another instruction: "Stretch out your hand over the sea."
As Moses stretched his hand over the sea, an amazing sight took place.
- A strong east wind blew.
- The waters divided, the sea became dry land, and they crossed to the other side.
- The Egyptians pursued.
- The sea returned, and all the Egyptians drown.
- Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hands of the Egyptians, and they continued on their journey.
Back to the present time
A new year is beginning, and you are standing on the banks of your own Red Sea. Within your heart, you know you have a God-given dream. It is literally burning within you to perhaps write that book, go back to college or maybe open your own business.
But, despite your excitement over the vision and purpose deep inside your heart that you know God is calling you to fulfill, Pharaoh and his army are in hot pursuit of you to keep you from entering into your promised land of fulfilling your dream.
You can literally see the swords in their hands swinging mightily in your direction to overthrow you and cause you to drown in The Red Sea.
