I think we all struggle at some point, probably more than one time in our life, with the question, "What is my purpose in life right now?”

Quite often, and I am talking from experience, we try and make it too big.  We wait for the one "big thing" to happen and overlook the people and opportunities that are right in front of us.  It is easy to take them for granted and think it’s just a part of life or unimportant. But, I believe in Ecclesiastes 3 that teaches us that there is a season for everything.  I am learning that God sometimes wants me to pause and look around at the different roles He has given me in this season of my life.  He is waiting for me to serve with purpose with those roles.

For example, think for a moment how many roles you currently have each day? Are you a wife, friend, sister, mom, church member, volunteer, community member, teacher, grandmother, aunt, mentor, confident?  Can you name another that I have missed?  

Here's the point:

Sometimes we are so busy mentally trying to figure it all out that we miss what is right in front of us.

I have to remind myself also that God has given me many opportunities to serve as He has clearly called me to with those who are right in front of me. For example:

• Am I being the wife God instructs me to be for my husband?
• Am I teaching my children with Godly instruction and spending quality time with them?
• Am I attending church as a checkoff each week, or are there areas where I should be giving of my time and talents?
• Am I giving quality time and a listening ear to my friends and family?

Matthew 20:26-28 in the NIV says: Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,  and whoever wants to be first must be your slave  just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

My prayer is that I don't overlook what God has put right in front of me, and that I serve with purpose just as Jesus had a purpose when He came to serve me.

I encourage you to serve and love in the current role God has placed you in during this season of life.  That is the purpose He would have you fulfill today.
